Happy Sunday! I wanted to leave you all with some words of wisdom. I originally found this quote on Model Citizen's blog pleasedontfeedthemodels.blogspot.com

Enjoy and have try to have a great Monday!

Isabella Blow

People think that fashion is all frivolity and done by people who can’t do proper jobs,” says the writer Adrian Gill, “but Issie (fashion muse Isabella Blow) understood that it is very, very serious business in terms of civilization and culture. It’s the one piece of culture that every single person in the world participates in. Not everybody reads poetry or listens to music, but every single person in the world gets up in the morning and puts on something, and whether you like it or not, that’s a statement about who you are.

When In Rome.....

My Current position as an Admission Counselor is my first real job out of college. I remember my first day....I did not know what to wear. VP told me the look in the office was professional, but once I arrived I found it was more business casual.

I had a rough time getting the hang of work attire, so I took style cues from my co-workers (the 4 other Admission Counselors...3 of whom have left). But after a few months of working there I realized that their style was so not me.....not to diss pearls and cardigans, but it's just not my steez!

So, right now I am experimenting with looks I can feel comfortable in. What I'm interested in is an sophisticated urban look. I'm a very creative person and I need my clothing to express that!

So, in the coming months I'm gonna be experimenting with looks and of course I will share my style revelations.

So, I mentioned that I bought some stuff online and I just wanted to share with you all what I got!

Endless.com is hands down the best website for shoes! They have designer shoes for great prices and they even take $5 off your total (not sure why they do this, but it's for a limited time). I just bought 2 pairs of Penny Loves Kenny pumps....one in black and one in yellow. These shoes were so girly yet grown up. The cute heart shaped design is what really caught my eye!I can easily see myself wearing these to the office, then putting on some jeans and a fitted top to hang out with friends.

Each pair was only $23.79...what a steal!!

Then I found this website, bethbenderbeauty.com, that sells makeup and such. And when I was looking at the eye products I found a stencil kit that helps you draw a cat eye, perfect the smoky eye, and even the impossible simple line across the lashes! You know I was all over that!

Now at $36 I was hesitant to purchase this eye kit, but I have been wanting to perfect these techniques since I picked up my first black kohl eyeliner pencil...so I figured this purchase was simply an investment in my makeup future!

Have a great weekend!

Finally, It's Friday!

I had a dream earlier this week that I was buying this gorgeous gold necklace. It was a multi-stranded long, gold necklace....I took this dream to mean that I need to invest in more jewelry. So, I did a little searching online and found great websites to get my fabulous new jewelry collection started.

I live on bluefly.com. But I have never noticed the vast collection of modern, grown-up jewelry they have. I found both this necklace and ring on the site

The Argento Vivo gold hammered swirl pendant necklace is $84....a small price to pay for such a unique piece.

The Alexis Bittar pointed moonstone ring is only $48.....and the possibilities are endless with this piece. It can be worn during the day with your professional suit or at night when you go out for drinks; and then, it can be taken to church on Sunday.

I also found this other website with beautiful pieces by Anne Maa. Her website is annemaadesigns.com. Now, this site is a wee bit more expensive then Bluefly, but you will definitely not catch anyone else on the street with earrings like these

The first set of earrings is $164. The second set is $172. The ring in the third picture is $169. I'm already starting to save.....her rings are AMAZING! But just FYI, make sure your hands look cute if your gonna be wearing such a hot ring....you don't want to be flashing around a big ring if your cuticles are ragged and your nails are bitten.

Finally, a favorite of mine is girlprops.com. It's cheap....excuse me, inexpensive and fun jewelery. I bought these Scorpio earrings for my birthday almost 3 years ago.

If you notice, stars like Missy Elliot and even Beyonce have rocked these in their videos....but let me just say, I had these earrings way before Beyonce was singing "Irreplaceable"....don't get it twisted!

Next week, both my bosses come back to work. I'm actually kinda scared to see how VP is going to take losing another employee in less 2 weeks. This has got to reflect poorly on her managerial skills. But once my online weekend purchases start coming in the mail I won't even pay attention to what's going on around me because I'll be too absorbed in my cute shoes from Penny Loves Kenny. Did I mention that I ordered 2 new pairs of shoes? I'll get to it in my next post!

Have a great Friday and don't spend to much!

When The Cat's Away....

The work week is almost OVER!

Both my bosses, VP and Director, are on vacation (btw, who goes on vaction just 2 weeks after starting a new job?). And before she left, Director told me not to go wild because "when the cat's away the mice will play" (her exact words). Ummmm, she does not know me! But anyway, I had a very very busy week. I am working on this program for October (it's an event for prospective students). Since this is my 2nd event for this school I feel pretty confident in what I need to do. However, I have to work with the Communications Department to get the invitations ready. And let me just say the communications dept. sucks! I went to them early this month with a cute idea and in return I got nothing that resembled my vision. Forget creative licesene, it looks like complete garbage. So, back to the drawing board I went....and I think we have some sort of compromise. But it's just a shame when you ask someone to do something and they get it wrong.

Before the week started, I went to my local Target to check out the new GO Designs of Libertine. Quite honestly, I have to admit that I have never heard of these designers or this label so I didn't know what to expect. But I found a few cute things. I should have taken pictures of me trying on the clothes in the dressing room, but I keep forgetting my camera....next time!

The first was this dress that I called the "Ghost Dress." It reminded me of something that little girl from "The Others" would wear.

I was hesitant at first, but went for it.....and it looked like a nightgown on me :(
I was really hopeful for this dress...even trying to get a belt to put with it and even imagining some tights...but it wasn't for me....maybe it's my body type. In the picture, the model seems to be wearing some pants with it....I don't see that working because the dress itself is so heavy and full, it would just overshadow the pants and just look hot (not sexy hot, but 'i'm burning up' hot). But I think I may go back and try it with pants.

The next item was this striped bow top. I imediately loved it. However, if you are well endowed up top it may not be such a good look. But I can see myself wearing this to work.

The final item I tried on was this pink skull and bones top. I like the skull. A friend of mine disagrees, but I think if you pair it with pink or some other unexpected color it makes it look less scary.

Next time I check out the Libertine designs at Target I will bring my camera!

Ooooo, I forgot to add....someone else is leaving at work. In my department (Admissions) we also work with Financial Aid and Student Affairs. Well, the Associate Director of Financial Aid decided to leave.....and return to her old job which she just left not even a year ago to work with us! Ummmm, whatev!(whateva's clever....btw, this speaks volumes!) I have a feeling some other 2 week notices will be popping up shortly!

Have a great Friday!!!

Good Girl Gone....Well, Still Good

This week at work was pretty average. I'm still trying to get accustom to having a boss directly over me. Also, this week we had performance evaluations....as usual, I received perfect reviews!

At the end of a long week I like to hit up drugstores and indulge in buying drugstore beauty products.I've been really into the ad campaign for Max Factor featuring Carmen Electra (did you know Max factor was the first creator of mascara?). The colors are so eye catching and have such interesting names (I'm drawn to the creative names as well). Although I didn't buy any eyeshadow, i did purchase some mascara. Now, I'm a die hard Cover girl Exact Lash addict, but I decided to switch it up and try the Lash Perfection Mascara. And let me just say.....amazing!It instantly made me lashes longer and thicker. I think I may have found a new mascara y'all!

(maxfactor.com)

Ever since Rhianna announced that she was bad I have been really digging her style....not her voice so much....but her style is on point. I really admire how she is switching up the R&B game by adding edge (maybe manufactured, but still edgy nonetheless).

(oh-rihanna.com)

So on a shopping excursion last weekend with a friend she found these Nike Zoom Team Edition.

(konasports.com)

So I swagger jacked a little and bought the same pair! Now, I'm faced with the dilemma of how to wear it. I don't want to be too matchy matchy, but the outfit needs to go together. Maybe I could even wear it with a dress with a poufy skirt a la Lily Allen....just a thought!Feel free to send in suggestions.

Have a great weekend!

Who's That Girl?

I keep hearing this song "The Way I Are" by this chick names Keri Hilson featuring Timbaland. Besides the fact that it uses incorrect grammer, the sound is very reminscent of old J.Lo (think On the 6/ "Waiting for Tonight" J.Lo). But it's kinda catchy...I even caught myself putting some pep in my step while on the treadmill when I heard it at the gym. So I decided to do a little research on this keri Hilson.

She is a 23 year old from Decatur, Georgia (I knew I could identify that Georgia swagger). She has lent her voice to a lot of other artists albums (Xzibit, Lloyd Banks, Diddy, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls, Ciara, the list goes on and on) and has even hand her hand in writing a lot of hot songs such as "Take Me As I Am" by Mary J. Blige, "4 Minutes" by Avant (I actually like that song), and "Icebox" by Omarion (I love his first single "O", I wonder who helped him write that).

Also, she describes herself as a "musical flowerchild." I guess that means unqiue and organic flava?

Dang! Homegirl is ultra talented. She has done way way way more than me and she's younger too. I need to get off my butt! I found all this information at her website kerihilson.com or check her out at myspace.com/kerihilson

Her album, In a Perfect World is due later this year.

So here is a video for her single "The Way I Are" featuring Timbaland....Enjoy and let me know what you think!

The Way I Are Official Video (Keri Hilson D.O.E. Sebastian)

Achooo!!!!!

I called in sick today.

I honestly could not fathom seeing my boss today. Just to break it down....we have a new Director to report to. This position has not been filled since I started about a year ago, so we previously reported to the department VP. But as of last week we have this new director. I'm not feeling her! I'm not used to being micromanaged. Also, she came in my office the other day, hovered behind me while I sat at my desk, and talked....with the foulest breath! And it was only 9am. What do you eat that early that your breath is kicking at 9am? And it wasn't a little coffee breath...it was full out dragon breath; like a little coffee, mixed with coke, fire, onion burrito, and chit (replace the 'c' with a 's'). I was so offended y'all! And she dresses like she's going to take the dog out at 2am so it can potty. We're not a highly fashion orientated office (with the exception of a few folks...me included), but dayum....don't come in looking like you don't own a mirror.

Anyway, I found this quote today that I wanted to share with my fellow entry-level fashionistas.

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."

Another One Bites the Dust

So today at work, another one bit the dust. That's 3 employees who quit in less than a month. So that's 2 of us holding down the fort. I cannot imagine what the next fews weeks (until we find replacements) has in store for me, so I decided to take a 'sick' day tomorrow to clear my head :)

Although, work was extremely busy for me today I still found the time to puruse my favorite website.....M.A.C. To my delight, they have two new collections...Rushmetal...and Flashtronic! I'm really feeling the mineralized eyeshadow and skinfinish in the Flastronic collection.

The Flashtronic eye shadow comes in 6 colors. Payday can't come fast enough!

The second collection, Rushmetal, could not come any sooner. With a serious metallic glow these shades are awesome for summer (think Beyonce at the BET Awards). The Pigments are amazing!!!

Check out that shimmer. It's called 'Off the Radar.' LOVE IT!!!

So to lift my spirits I ordered two limited edition eye shadows called Blue Edge ("vivid blue with gold sparkle") and Peppier ("an upbeat coral with gold sparkle").

You can get free shipping until this Saturday if you enter 'FLASH' during checkout!

Below I have a listing of this week's Lust List. Just products and items I wish I could have!

Have a great day at work!

Love,

Giselle

Lust List

1. Beyonce's makeup artist Mally Roncal has a new line of cosmetics out. Everything is exquiste. But one product I really want to try is the Light Wand Eye Brightener.According to the qvc.com website, the "creamy, long-wearing pencil instantly lightens and brightens. An extra-soft dabber on the other end lets you highlight the eye with illuminating powder." Ooooo, doesn't that sound like the perfect remedy dark circles or a late night? At only $25, it's attainable.

qvc.com

2. DiorShow Mascara. I have heard so much praise for this mascara. Gisele(former Vickie Secret Model) says this mascara is like having butterflies on your lashes(can you imagine?!) I have a sample of the mascara that I got from my sister which I usually layer with my Covergirl Exact Lash and it makes my eyes look GREAT! At $23 it is affordable!

sephora.com

3. Trashy Diva is a 1940s style boutique in New Orleans that makes amazing dresses. Like this chocolate 'Ashley Dress' below.

trashydiva.com

I'm really trying to take my style game to the next level; and, 1940s dresses would defintely enhance my figure. But at $249 I'm thinking twice.

4. I love urban style and I'm trying to mix that urban flair with sophistication. This Diane Von Frustenburg blouse successfully accomplishes this feat!

Now, this top must be really hot...because I can't find it anywhere and it's sold out at Bluefly. Can anyone help me find it. I would gladly pay the $150 to be seen in this!

bluefly.com

5. Fun Bright, Summer Colors! With the low morale environment I work in I try to wear bright, pretty, feminine colors to brighten my mood. While I was on glam.com (a beauty lovers online heaven), I peeped these amazing colors that I want to invest in. Check out the Glam.com website for the article "Color Me Pretty"

Welcome

Greetings! My name is Giselle and welcome to my blog. As you can tell from the title I am.....underpaid, overworked, but always fabulous. I needed to create a place where I could vent about the Hell known as entry-level. A little about me....I am a 2005 college graduate with a degree in English. I went through school with the dream of becoming a writer. Of course I still have that dream, but until I am able to spread my wings and fly, I work as an Admission Counselor in Georgia. I recruit students by traveling near and far. I also plan recruitment programs, review files, and put up with my bosses who I secretly believe are idiots! But I am not deterred y'all....even though I live in the south and work a job that (in my opinion) is dead-end, I still maintain my fabulous life! I am so excited to share this journey with you!
